Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village is New York’s Italian Language School
Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, west of Sixth Avenue, our vast and lengthy experience in teaching Italian to New Yorkers furthers our students’ mastery of the language, which is often tied to their professions, cultural heritage, travels, studies, and often, simply for the pleasure of knowing Italian.
Not Only Language…
We guide you in the step-by-step discovery of Italian from basic to advanced usage, as well as hand you a ‘slice’ of Italy–its cultural aspects, body language, and contemporary daily life. We discuss art, historic sites, and all manner of gastronomic traditions.
We stress the pleasures of Italian language and culture, having found that the most effective learning is achieved in an enjoyable atmosphere.
Our courses are taught by professional experienced native speakers who follow the curriculum we have developed through our long and ongoing experience. We offer instruction at all levels, thoroughly covering grammar, syntax and pronunciation through conversation, and written and reading assignments. Our programs use a textbook, Pianeta Italia, in two volumes that we wrote and publish.
To ensure individual attention, classes are limited to a maximum of ten students per in-person group and eight students for online groups; therefore we urge you to register as soon as possible. Applicants who are not beginners are given placement tests and interviewed.
We realize that classes sometimes have to be missed. Therefore we offer, as a courtesy, when possible the chance to make up missed classes in another group during the session.
Private lessons and translation services are available upon request.
