Family-run hydroponic greenhouse bringing fresh produce to our community all year round!
It all started in February 2018 when my parents took a trip up to Boston to visit. I had, on a whim, decided to try my hand at making my own hard cider. It was very basic: glass jug, plastic air lock, small apartment kitchen. A classic whimsical hobby,
The first batch was supposed to be ready around dad’s birthday so I, generous daughter that I am, thought it would be fun to have mom and dad come up and make a weekend out of it. We would bottle our first batch of homemade cider, but first we’d take a trip to a local cider company to see how the pros do it. Just in case.
I won’t bore you with the details, but suffice to say it came out pretty delicious, if I do say so myself.
Little did I know, this visit left my dad feeling inspired to put his own spin on this whole cider-making business.
Months pass, and I made a trip home to New York. When I arrived, a new addition awaited when I walked in: a brand new cider making kit. My mom had her little book tracking recipes and results. My dad had his fancy chiller so the cider would stay the perfect temperature. I wondered where this love of climate control was when it came to the thermostat, but I digress.
“I made some improvements,” he said. He certainly did. The cider was refreshing and crisp, not too sweet, and the perfect flavor. And they didn’t have to juggle any glass jugs in the process. My parents put 150% into their new creation, and it showed. They kept brewing and experimenting with new flavors, building up a highly convenient stash as they went.
Why 4 grills? That’s why you came here, after all. Well, it’s simple really. My parents go above and beyond in everything they do. One gallon of cider at a time? Make it seven. Backyard hydroponic garden? Make it a full-size greenhouse. With a fountain and a patio. One grill for our family of three? Actually, we’ll take four.
4 Grills Cider, now available at the MG Hydrofarm, try some out next time you’re in town!
