It all started with a tie in 1967…

Working out of a drawer in the Empire State Building, and drawing inspiration of the glamour of Old Hollywood, Ralph bucks the trends of the day with a collection of wide ties, each handmade with the highest quality fabrics.

In 1968, Ralph deputs his first full men’s collection. Standout pieces include a wide flannel suit, and dress shirts in unexpected sport shirt fabrics. “I wanted more romance,” Ralph said explaining his inspiration. “I wanted something that got me excited.”

In 1970, the Polo by Ralph Lauren shop opens in Bloomingdales. It’s the legendary store’s first ever boutique devoted to a single designer, and Ralph oversees every detail, down to the wood paneling.

For more than 50 years, Ralph Lauren has sought to inspire the dream of a better life through authenticity and timeless style. Its reputation and distinctive image have been developed across a wide range of products, brands, distribution channels and international markets.
