Roc Kizomba
Roc Kizomba was founded in 2013 and is the one and only, consistently present Kizomba dance company in Upstate New York.
Founded by Elyse Jurutka, Roc Kizomba has served as a dance school, a social dance community, and a place for people of all walks of life to come together for the mutual love of dance.
Roc Kizomba is led by Elyse Jurutka, the company’s founder and instructor. Elyse has been dancing kizomba for over 10 years now, and has taught, performed and trained all over the United States, Canada and Europe.
She took to Kizomba early in her dance adventures and has traveled far and wide to learn from some of the best in the business, from Ennuel Iverson, Curtis Seldon, Audi MPK, Manuel Dos Santos, Steve & Maren, Marc Brewer, Charles Ogar, Jojo, Fabricio do Zangado… the list goes on and on, as does her dance & learning.
Elyse has toured the United States, teaching at festivals and congresses in cities such as Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Myrtle Beach SC, London CA, Toronto CA, Montreal, Calgary BC, and many more.
She has organized two kizomba performance teams, competed in kizomba dance competitions, taught countless workshops and hosted many socials throughout upstate NY and beyond.
Her passion for the dance and for her community keeps her going and continually working hard to expand the reach and love that is kizomba.
Weekly Kizomba classes are back in October! Classes begin Thursday October 3rd! No class on Halloween (Classes for October end on Thursday October 24th!)
- Level 1 7-8pm: no experience required ! Learn (or refresh) your basics and get ready to join us on the social dance floor.
- Level 2 8-9pm: previous Kizomba experience expected – take your dance to the next level, hone your technique, learn and develop musicality, connection, more intricate moves and broaden your understanding of the differences between kizomba, semba, urban kiz and tarraxa.
- Practice Social 9-10pm: Mingle with other dancers, practice and solidify what you learn in class with some practice time! Free with the purchase of a 4-week class pass!
