Do Amore
We believe that symbols of love should never come with questions of ethics. That was the sentiment that filled Do Amore founder Krish Himmatramka’s heart as he prepared to propose nine years ago. At the time, Krish was an engineer, working long hours on an oil rig in Louisiana. It was there that he learned it took weeks and weeks to reach oil, but just minutes to hit water. He found himself bereft, recalling memories of his childhood, where he’d witnessed people suffering from a lack of clean water. How could people die from lack of access to something that flows just 30 yards below their feet? He knew something needed to be done.
Around this same time, Krish was shopping for engagement rings. However, every time he questioned a jeweler on ethics and sustainability, they responded nervously with the same talking points. None could confidently discuss their diamond sourcing, nor the impact this sourcing had on world communities. Krish found these canned statements were just safeguards in case someone asked, not pride in where and how these jewelers sourced their jewelry. Krish wanted better. He wanted conflict-free diamonds and sustainable mining practices. And even more, he didn’t want to simply “not hurt” the environment or local communities. He wanted to help them.
