International Coastal Cleanup
Join us on September 17, 2022 for the International Coastal Cleanup!
By helping to remove trash from our local beaches, you’ll contribute to a global effort to fight for trash-free seas and learn about marine debris.
Volunteers needed for this first ever harbor-wide event! This community effort is great for families… It’s more than just picking up beach trash: all items collected are logged with either an app or worksheet, then weighed.
All information is sent to the Ocean Conservancy to be added to the largest coastal debris database in the world.
Ocean Conservancy is working with you to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges. Together, we create evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it.
The American Littoral Society promotes the study and conservation of marine life and habitat, protects the coast from harm, and empowers others to do the same. The American Littoral Society – Northeast Chapter – collates the information for our area so we can learn things like:
A) If interventions like bag and straw bans help and;
B) other threats to the harbor’s ecosystem that should be addressed.
Sign up to participate at the International Coastal Cleanup at 1 of 4 sites around Hempstead Harbor in Long Island, New York by emailing [email protected] or by calling (516) 801-6792.
