The Chai Spot

The Chai Spot

The Chai Spot is a social enterprise focused on peace-building between the East and West, as well as the socio economic empowerment of women and education of children in Pakistan. We currently have cafes in Manhattan, NYC and Sedona, Arizona.

The Chai Spot is a social-enterprise dedicated to peace-building, and socio-economic empowerment of women and children in Pakistan.

With the tinkling of cups, warm aroma of cardamom, and the meaningful silence that follows each sip, chai has a creative and powerful way of generating space for dialogue and conversation. It melts the ice and softens the air, allowing people to see each other as they truly are. Humans. Without their shields, and without prejudice.

50% of our profits support women and children in Pakistan!

70% of our products are handmade by rural women and men. Pakistan is still one of those countries where most everything essential is handmade. Women sit for hours embroidering, sewing and singing, and men take pride in their handcrafted furniture and handicrafts. We strive to support these artisans while providing our guests a complete and authentic experience of Pakistan.

We would not be doing this work if it did not benefit the communities that need us the most. Nearly 22 million children in Pakistan are out of school, and rural women are still fighting for their rights. We start and support projects that educate children, and we work towards socio-economic empowerment of women in Pakistan.

Each location of The Chai Spot is designed to transport our guests to Pakistan with colors, textures, stories and flavors. Our chais are made from scratch with fresh spices, traditional recipes, and love. We proudly bring an exclusive menu to our guests limited to only chais we have tried and loved for their magical power to transport our guests with each sip.

The Chai Spot also works with women in a dozen different villages of the Sindh and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan. These women have beautifully crafted modern styles with ancient embroidery. The Chai Spot is proud to bring a marketplace of these goods to our guests at both our flagship location in the Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village (Sedona) as well as at our new location in the heart of Manhattan.

What started with a love story.. This story began when Khalida and David met for the first time in 2013. Their love took them on an epic journey to unite amidst a harshly divided world. Khalida comes from the tribal communities of Balochistan in Pakistan, while David is an Italian American from Los Angeles. Despite their differences, they fought hard to bring their worlds together. Their impossible love story led them to discover a solution to eradicate fear as well as transform peoples’ beliefs through something as simple as chai.
