Sydney Cash
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Sydney Cash moves to New York City in his early adulthood to establish a business casting replicas of old gargoyles on 6th avenue in the West Village. After about a decade, he sells that business and becomes a bonafide sculptor.
Sydney Cash’s work is in many public & private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Corning Museum of Glass, and le Muse des Arts Decoritifs in Paris.
Cash’s work has been featured in American Craft Magazine where glass was becoming recognized by the art industry. The 4-page spread put his work on the map, with galleries & collectors expressing interest in his slumped glass forms. The same year, the Museum of Modern art added Sydney’s slumped glass vase to its collection.
His work has been commissioned by the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the Museum of Modern Art, the Radisson Hotel, the Falcon in Marlboro, New York, and many other agencies.
Cash’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and abroad, including: OK Harris Gallery-NYC, Heller Gallery-NYC, Carpe Dium Gallery-Paris, Orlando Museum of Art, Retretti Art Museum-Punkaharju, Finland, and the Detroit Institute of Art.
He has received two Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants, the Fellissimo Award, as well as fellowships from The National Endowment for The Arts and from the New York Foundation for The Arts.
