Send in the ‘Night Music’ Revival

The anticipated Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” is expected to go into a Jujamcyn theater this fall, with an announcement forthcoming soon about details of the production, according to two members of the creative team.

The show will be in large part a transfer of the current London production directed by Trevor Nunn (“Les Miserables,” “Cats”), though all of the roles are open for the Broadway staging. A casting notice this spring said that rehearsals were scheduled to begin in October, with an opening in December.

“A Little Night Music,” with a score by Mr. Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, first opened on Broadway in 1973 and went on to win the Tony awards for best musical and for best actress for Glynis Johns. The musical, based on the Bergman movie “Smiles of a Summer Night,” explores the romantic lives of several couples, and includes one of Sondheim’s best-known songs, “Send in the Clowns.”
